ABOUT ME
Since discovering journalism, I've written about ... you name it: royal weddings and malls, war and linoleum, coyotes and taxes, growing pains and chocolate truffles. As a young reporter, I received a prestigious Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award citation for a newspaper series chronicling the lives of impoverished single mothers in rural northern Michigan. As a freelancer I continue to write about a variety of topics, particularly those related to the home, food, parenting, travel and the environment.
I love finding the story in the story and, as a former magazine and newspaper staff editor, I also understand how to produce stories as needed--on time, as envisioned, in a publication's voice, with readers in mind. Much of my freelance work has been for publications with whom I have years-long relationships.
I live in the nation's Cherry Capital, just blocks from the bluest Great Lake, with my young son. I also edit, design and publish books.
LOVE LETTERS FROM READERS
"I happened across your article 'We believe the children aren't the future' and I was obsessed about finding a way to contact you. I was so moved by your article and had never read anything like it before."
"...would you please tell her i was mad for her essay. it was gorgeously written and made some wonderful wonderful points.....it made me think; it made me feel. pretty much a perfect essay."
"THANK YOU for your terrific article in last Sunday's Tribune. I'm a brittle diabetic with my blood sugars up and down all through the day. But when my blood glucose is in one particular narrow range, I tend to be very weepy at the drop of a pin. And that just happened to be the case when I was reading your article, so I was a mess for a few minutes.
"I hope you can interpret that as a compliment.
"And I hope you receive MANY messages of gratitude for your article."
